MCCAIN TO APPOINT MAGIC 8 BALL AS ATTORNEY GENERAL

MCCAIN TO APPOINT MAGIC 8 BALL AS ATTORNEY GENERAL

"Would be first black AG, experts say"

MSNBC
From NBC/NJ's Carrie Dann
MIAMI, FL – The question of whether or not President Bush overstepped his constitutional power by authorizing warrantless checks of Americans' international communications after 9/11 is "ambiguous," McCain said yesterday. But, he added, he hopes not to dwell on the issue.

"It's ambiguous as to whether the president acted within his authority or not," McCain told reporters at a press conference in the Florida Everglades yesterday.

The question of presidential authority has been a hot topic in past weeks, as key surveillance legislation has been gummed up in Congress. A sticking point has been the question of whether telecommunications companies can be prosecuted retroactively for participating in the post-9/11 surveillance. McCain, who believes that they should not face such penalties, called for the quick passage of that legislation, saying of the wiretapping debate that "the whole issue can be resolved by passing the FISA bill."

OBAMA CONVERTS TO JUDAISM

June 4, 2008
Washington, D.C.
Associated Press

OBAMA CONVERTS TO JUDAISM

Sen. Barack Obama, the presumed Democratic nominee for President, surprised many in the audience during his address to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee(AIPAC) Policy Conference by announcing his immediate conversion to Judaism. At the end of his speech, in which he discussed the Iraq war, Iran, a future Palestinian state, and U.S.-Israeli relations, Obama told the listeners he was now a Jew. “Fulfilling a lifelong spiritual quest, which has brought me from the faith of my father and stepfather, to the Christianity of my grandparents and my wife, I have finally a home in the Hebrew faith,” Obama told the gathering of largely Jewish activists. “I look forward to sharing my faith with my Jewish brothers and sisters, and someday visiting the homeland of my people, Israel,” said Obama, to applause.

AIPAC member Alan Weisman, a Washington lawyer, was pleased. “I think it’s great. He will be the fist Jewish President, unless you count Abraham Lincoln,” he said. Others were more skeptical. Hannah Kotlowitz said, “I’m sorry, but no. The blood of Moses doesn’t flow through his veins.”

Obama said he will begin studying Hebrew this summer, in anticipation of a bar mitzvah after he becomes President. “I would like to introduce my new spiritual advisor, Rabbi Harold Meyerson, who I am assured has never said anything controversial in his whole life,” Obama told the gathering.

In a brief interview, Obama said he has always felt close the Jewish people. “My grandfather helped liberate Buchenwald, plus I’ve seen all of Woody Allen’s movies, as well as ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, ‘Yentl’, ‘An American Tale’, and ‘A Stranger Among Us’,” he said.

Experts said the move will help Obama politically. Rep. Steve Rothman, the only member of the New Jersey Congressional delegation to endorse Obama, said “I’m thrilled. This will really help voters in my district get a sense of who Obama really is - one of them.”

Pat Buchanan called the conversion “shrewd.” “It’s brilliant - although some will see it at expediency, it’s a clever tactical move that can only help him,” said Buchanan. Buchanan said that in fact, at one time he and William Safire had thought of approaching President Richard Nixon about converting to Judaism to help win the 1972 election, but “just as we were walking into the Oval Office to discuss it, he was telling Billy Graham about those ‘goddamm jews trying to bring me down,’ so we dropped the idea.” Tim Russert of NBC said the move makes sense. “This will help Obama with a key Democratic constituency he has problems with, Jewish voters. Plus, you know Sammy Davis Jr. was Jewish.”

WE ALREADY HAVE SANCTIONS AGAINST IRAN

The world should launch a divestment campaign against Iran to curb its nuclear ambitions and reduce potential threats to Israel's security, Republican U.S. presidential candidate John McCain said on Monday.

"We should privatize the sanctions against Iran by launching a worldwide divestment campaign," McCain told a meeting of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), comparing such a move to similar efforts that helped bring an end to apartheid in South Africa.

"As more people, businesses, pension funds and financial institutions across the world divest from companies doing business with Iran, the radical elite who run that country will become even more unpopular than they are already," he said.

McCain, it's called OFAC: here is their website.

Stengel: yes Atrios was right all along but he has an agenda - he is in league with the Truth Lobby

Cynthia Tucker: that's old news

Chris: McClellan says if Bush had known he would have killed so many people he would not have killed so many people

VAST CRACKS APPEAR IN ARCTIC ICE

Vast cracks appear in Arctic ice

By David Shukman
Environment correspondent, BBC News

Dramatic evidence of the break-up of the Arctic ice-cap has emerged from research during an expedition by the Canadian military.

Scientists travelling with the troops found major new fractures during an assessment of the state of giant ice shelves in Canada's far north.

The team found a network of cracks that stretched for more than 10 miles (16km) on Ward Hunt, the area's largest shelf.

The fate of the vast ice blocks is seen as a key indicator of climate change.
For Memorial Day, Black Entertainment TV is showing a "Diffr'nt Strokes" marathon.

Make of that what you will.

MEET THE PRESS - May 25, 2008

*******************************************
Meet The Press
Tim Russert and Assorted D.C. pundits
MoDo, Parson Meachem, Doris Footnote Goodwin, Xian Brody, Gwen Ifill
May 25, 2008
*******************************************

Russert: omg Hillary hopes Obama get killed!!

Goodwin: in her defense her analogy was completely wrong plus its clear her people have been hoping he blows up with another revelation like a crazy Reverend or a black child

Dowd: indeed they are hoping something terrible happens to him

Ifill: I fear it all the time so yeah it was disturbing

Meachem: you can't go wrong with good "meaning of is is" joke

Panel: HA HA HA HA

Meachem: she is hoping disaster befalls the nominee

Russert: you gotta have hope

Parson Jon: she is Reagan in '76

Timmy: Obama could be within 12 delegates in a week

Brody: he's got two opposition research teams attacking him at once

Russert: but he hasn't been vetted yet

Brody: right

Timmy: has she earned the right to be V.P.??

Marcus: yeah talking about Bobby's assassination is just the way to earn the invitation

Question: is Bill Clinton a pain in the ass?

Obama: that's not what i heard

Audience: ha ha ha

Obama: look i'm a pragmatist and Doris Goodwin plagiarized a good book called 'Team of Rivals' about Lincoln and even though he was named Abraham he took some non-jews in his cabinet so I might take some non-muslims

Goodwin: good idea you want the enemies pissing out as LBJ would say

Russert: Maureen is it all sexism??

Dowd: pure Poppy Cock

Russert: What does George Herbert Walker Bush have to do with this?

Dowd: she also resorts to sexism when she fails - she's like a prettier Al Sharpton

Russert: did she lose because of sexism?

Marcus: she was playful and tough and won't be the nominee because ran a bad campaign

Brody: now that she has lost to play the sexism card is whiny

Ifill: sexist!!!

Goodwin: resentment and victimhood looks bad for a woman who has accomplished so much

Russert: which is it - is she more electable than Obama or a victim of national rampant national sexism?

Meachem: god go with her

Tim: what the fuck parson Jon?

Meachem: i am not a racist or sexist i just happen to always vote for white men

Brody: this race ended in Iowa

Russert: wow

Brody: they blew it with the caucuses

Tim: that's not sexism its competence

Dowd: they helped write the rules and they still blew tens of millions of dollars

Ifill: the black voters were originally with her too

Tim: can a black man win the presnit

Meacham: in theory yes - in reality no

Tim: what the fuck does that mean parson

Jon: Obama scores on the race resentment index

Tim: what's that

Meachem: the Scary Black Man Score

Ifill: hell i'm queasy too

Parson Jon: this is why McCain is still doing well after all he is a real American

Ifill: we have to talk about race in America

Meachem: we have an Open Letter to Obama from Harold Ford about how to win over voters

Tim: didn't he lose?

Meachem: that's what makes him so perfect for Newsweek

Ifill: what about McCain

Meachem: he's a Saint

Goodwin: people don't even know his momma was white

Tim: they think he's a muslim!!!

Brody: Obama is having Family Faith outreach discussion it's about family

Tim: what is that code for?

Brody: christian law

Marcus: he's all about faith McCain is an atheist

Tim: which faith the muslim or the other one?

Marcus: both

Tim: but McCain is reaching out the family values crowd by seeking the endorsement of neo-Nazis

Dowd: yeah you can bash Catholics but not embrace Hitler

Brody: well he's in trouble now Hitler is very popular with the Republican base

Tim: will McCain pick Bobby Jindal

Ifill: give me a fucking break we have nothing to report on this summer what else would be do

Tim: spend time with our families?

Panel: Ha Ha Ha Ha

Meachem: speaking of Henry II....

Tim: shut up you pretentious twit

McCain: i was a POW!!

Goodwin: hey Lincoln and FDR were not soldiers either

McCain: will not use my opponents youth and inexperience against him

Obama: fuck that shit

Dowd: McCain has a problem he's a fucking jerk

Brody: he can't be commander in chief because of Rezco and Jeremiah Wright

Ifill: Response: McBush!!

This Week With George Stephanopoulos - May 25, 2008

********************************************
This Week With George Stephanopoulos
May 25, 2008
Guest: David Axelrod
********************************************

Stephanopoulos: dave you know that Hillary wasn't really saying Clinton wasn't hoping that Obama be assassinated right dood

AxelRod: yeah but even she admitted it was pretty bad

Steph: yeah but you loved stirring this pot

AxelRod: let's move on we've gotten enough mileage out of it

Steph: Hillary says today she has lost the math but is still better than Obama

AxelRod: yeah she also counts phantom votes from Michigan

Steph: she says he is more popular than he is

AxelRod: well this isn't American Idol -- after all the wrong guy won that too

Steph: Mich and Florida are two of our more fucked up states

AxelRod: indeed they are - but we have to throw the crazies a bone

Steph: when do you wrap this up?

AxelRod: either June or September

Steph: she says she is better than you nationally

AxelRod: not true - look at Virginia or California or Ohio

Steph: 25% of Democrats hate you

AxelRod: McCain doesn't even have an opponent and he can't win 70% - it's sad

Steph: you lost Kentucky and West Virginia

AxelRod: that's ok Obama is going to run with that banjo-playing kid from Deliverance -- that will put us over the top

Steph: wow big news

AxelRod: ding ding ding ding ding....

Steph: Feinstein says you should run with Hillary

AxelRod: nope - we have women who know about the high price of milk

Steph: Got Milk?

A-Rod: GOT MLK?

Steph: Hillary fans will stay home cause Obama is sexist

A-Rod: well I hope they are happy when Roe v Wade is overturned

Steph: McCain says Obama should get a drivers license before he becomes president

A-Rod: this coming from a guy whose family won't let him drive the family car

Steph: why, too old?

A-Rod: no the jangling keys scare him

[ break ]

Steph: hello Karl and congrats for staying out of prison

Karl Rove: McCain is old but Obama is about change

Steph: play concern troll for me

Rove: Obama is a hypocrite he should spend the summer working with Republicans passing legislation

Steph: that's ridiculous why would the GOP give him legislation in middle of 2008

Rove: ok let him put a Republican on the ticket

Steph: you're full of great ideas

Steph: what about McCain?

Rove: he has to be the change and reform candidate

Steph: Huggy Bear???

Rove: he must fake it like my wife does

Steph: he's screwed isn't he?

Rove: no he must authentically play the fear and race card

Steph: even Mike Murphy told McCain to stop acting like an jerk

Rove: that's Nagourney he's an asshole

Steph: what else does he need to do

Rove: get 4 decades younger

Steph: the GOP is toxic and radioactive

Rove: these things wax and wane but people are basically conservative

Steph: they just hate karl rove and george bush

Rove: eeeeeek

Steph: you're losing seats left and right

Rove: true but lets put this in context we only lost because the Dems pointed out that the GOP is totally corrupt not that our ideas are bad

Steph: this is all your fault isn't it?

Rove: our hopes lie with John Boehner

Steph: omg you are truly fucked

Rove: hey i won my elections - fuck the younger generation

Steph: you conspired to put Don Siegelman in prison and now they are going after you piggy

Rove: oh c'mon all the people accused of crimes have denied it

Steph: that's not persuasive

Rove: well how about I argue separation of powers applies here

Steph: that allows you to commit crimes?

Rove: we offered to meet with Congress in secret and sadly they said no

Steph: ok tell me the truth about Don Siegelman

Rove: i learned that he was convicted from the newspaper

Steph: so you are not denying you broke the law, ruined the Justice department, and put innocent people in prison

Rove: who me?

Steph: yeah, dipshit you

Rove: well then no

The Daily Show with John Stewart
Guest: Douglas Feith
May 12, 2008
*************************************

Stewart: did you lie to kill 4,000 Americans

Feith: no I am very stupid but not a liar

Stewart: oh ok

Feith: true invading Iraq was very risky

Stewart: ah you also lied about how safe it was going to be

Feith: no you're forgetting how stupid i am - see I also was dumb about all that too

Stewart: you seem really, really stupid

Feith: not just me - Rumsfeld and Bush too

Feith: looking back i admit we were wrong about one thing - saying Iraq had WMD and that we would be greeted as liberators

Stewart: now that sounds like lying and deception to sell a product and killing people

Feith: oh sure you remember we tried to sell the war because it went really badly - but if the war had gone well i would be writing a book right now reminding people that we were really against the war

Stewart: all due respect Stupid i think i remember you guys selling this war like it was the Superbowl with blowjobs and orgasms

Feith: now that sounds fun - do you want a job

Stewart: c'mon didn't you sell this war with a pack of lies

Feith: well sure looking back we told lies but the lies were only clear in hindsight

Stewart: i don't believe you just fucked up

Feith: no no no - i disagree i believe this administration is mostly morons

Stewart: really?

Feith: The Bush administration is like Wagner -- it's better than it sounds

Stewart: but not as much fun to be around

Feith: that's why i wrote the book - to get my revisionst lies out there

Stewart: good luck with that dumbass

Feith: George Bush is like me and my golden retriever - dumb but loyal

Stewart: you guys totally invented the Iraq threat and mobilized this country for war with great effort

Feith: oh you're just assuming we wanted war

Stewart: i am - but in this case you had to work had to make a case for war

Feith: no you must understand - we don't *think* at all

Stewart: um, what?

Feith: look after 9/11 George Bush decided the best way to prevent another 9/11 was to invent a case against Iraq because he once tried to his daddy

Stewart: why didn't you focus on diplomacy?

Feith: we tried that - it was a lovely nanosecond

Feith: diplomacy failed when Saddam let the inspectors in and we realized he was not serious about war and cheated by agreeing to our demands

Stewart: but you lied

Feith: we had to lie because after 9/11 we need to prevent another 9/11 by attacking coutries before they ever thought of attacking us

Stewart: don't you see how immoral that kind of lying is

Feith: no i really don't

Stewart: well fuck off ya fuckin war criminal

BAILOUT HOMEOWNERS? NOW THAT'S JUST CRAZY

Protesters Enter Bear Stearns Headquarters
By REUTERS

NEW YORK (Reuters) - About 60 protesters opposed to the U.S. Federal Reserve's help in bailing out Bear Stearns entered the lobby of the investment bank's Manhattan headquarters on Wednesday, demanding assistance for struggling homeowners.

Demonstrators organized by the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America chanted "Help Main Street, not Wall Street" and entered the lobby without an invitation for around half an hour before being escorted out by police.

"There are no provisions for homeowners in this deal. There are people out there struggling who need help," said Detria Austin, an organizer at NACA, an advocacy group for home ownership.

Bear Stearns employees were alternatively amused and perplexed, taking pictures on their cell phones.

"Homeowners, that's more than $1 trillion (in mortgage debt), you're crazy," one man in a suit screamed at a protester on the street.

Bush Refuses to Take General's Calls

Phones rings at 3:00 am at the White House. And rings. And rings. And rings. And rings. And rings. And rings. And rings. And rings. And rings.

TWO DEATHLY HALLOWS FILMS!!??

The seventh and final Harry Potter novel will be adapted for the big screen in two parts, reports suggest.

Producer David Heyman told the Los Angeles Times it had been impossible to cram Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows' 608 pages into a single movie. "Unlike every other book, you cannot remove elements of this book," he said.

Fans of the series have been left disappointed in the past when key scenes, including Quidditch matches, were excised for the film adaptations. Star Daniel Radcliffe told the Los Angeles Times that splitting the final book in two was the only sensible option for the film-makers.

"There have been compartmentalised subplots in the other books that have made them easier to cut - although those cuts were still to the horror of some fans," he told the paper. The seventh book doesn't really have any subplots. It's one driving, pounding story from the word go."

The first will reportedly be released in November 2010, with the second part hitting screens the following May.

The first five movies have made $4.5 billion (£2.2 billion) worldwide - making it the biggest film franchise in box office history, surpassing both James Bond and Star Wars.

BUT HAS HE MET ADMIRAL KIRK?

As the Democratic presidential campaign has intensified in recent weeks, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and her supporters have said that Senator Barack Obama has not crossed the “threshold” to serve as commander in chief.

So does Mr. Obama believe that Mrs. Clinton is qualified?

“Yes,” Mr. Obama said. “As I believe Senator McCain is and as I believe I am. Keep in mind though, I think it is fair to say Senator Clinton has deployed this as a political strategy.”

In a news conference with reporters here today, Mr. Obama was flanked by 10 former generals and admirals who are supporting his candidacy. It is the latest in a series of dueling flag-draped events between the Clinton and Obama campaigns as they seek to demonstrate their national security credentials.

Democratic Debate - MSNBC - February 26, 2008

*****************************************
Democratic Debate
February 26, 2008
MSNBC
Sen. Hillary Clinton
Sen. Barack Obama
*****************************************

Brian Williams: Welcome to Ohio!! Home of 8 presidents - how the hell did that happen???

[applause]

Williams: this debate is like a Republican bathhouse - the only rule is that there are no rules!

Here to make me look even more handsome is Tim Russert

Russert: that's not what you said on Sept. 23, 1986

Williams: shut up Timmy

Williams: Hillary you flew into a rage at Obama do you have emotional problems

Hillary: dammit he said i was in favor of NAFTA

Obama: no that was BAFTA - i mean fuck daniel day lewis

Clinton: he said i would make people pay for their health care plan and that's not true because i would cover everyone whereas he would not and hates sick people

Williams: now let me flash the Drudge photo again and cite the Drudge Report twice

Clinton: oh for fuck's sake

Obama: well that's fine she denies the whole Drudge thing although a doubt it - but let's talk about health care -- she never lets a day go by without reminding people that I would leave 15 million people to die in the street without health insurance

Clinton: oh yeah that's true

Obama: well she only covers people with a mandate that would include garnishing wages

Clinton: but those are free riders

Obama: oh quit whining look at your Robo-calls

Clinton: no my lies on other issues are ok - but this issue is too important to send out bad mailings - its like the health insurance companies wrote it - i take on the insurers by requiring people to go out and buy health insurance

Obama: bullshit i care about sick people as much as you do

Clinton: we all must be in the same boat so insurers can't cherrry pick the sick people

Obama: criminy that does not make sense of course insurers like a mandate and how does her plan bring down costs

Clinton: He's Barack Mandate Obama when he requires parents to go out and get it's so wrong to make parents take care of their children

Obama: wrong wrong demmit

Clinton: no my plan is affordable because i have loads of subsidies and tax credits and i would limit the cost of premiums

Obama: its a gift to insurers

Clinton: health insurance is health care - there is no difference so ergo under your plan everyone dies

Obama: duh my plan makes parents get health insurance for their kids because it's affordable

Clinton: those young fuckers must be forced to buy health insurance they think they are immortal

Williams: maybe they're Highlanders

Clinton: Barack Obama is a big baby who needs a pillow and blankie

Obama: gawd 4 years of this will be friggin painful

Clinton: yes I was in favor of NAFTA but we need a plan to fix the mistakes i made in 1996

Obama: i have one too - elect me instead

Clinton: you need a time out like the one we need for trade i know that the blue collars joe sixpacks care and i guess that's ok

Obama: mighty white of you

Clinton: NAFTA killed Ohio but Obama keeps criticizing me and that's mean

Obama: jeebus of course she was in favor of NAFTA - when I worked on the streets of Chicago a quarter of a century ago i saw devastation caused by poor trade agreements

Clinton: i can't believe your mommy let you out that late at night

Russert: gotcha hillary you said dozens of times that NAFTA was great and courageous - will you pull out of NAFTA

Clinton: i will renegotiate it - but to be fair NAFTA really was a good idea and courageous

Russert: so was it a good idea or not??

Clinton: Tim you don't have the entire record sometimes i say it's good and sometimes i don't - i've been entirely consistent

Russert: can you prove that

Clinton: the Cleveland Plain Dealer said teh negro was lying

Clinton: this is NO FAIR Obama and i never voted on NAFTA

Russert: but you were co-president

Clinton: was i?

Russert: Borat will you pull out?

Obama: i luv american workers but let's face it free trade fucks us over i want to be the Worker President

Russert: u scare me

Obama: american retirees should not me making hamburgers

Russert: i can haz cheeseburger?

Timmy: are you sure that NAFTA isn't great i mean look at my underwear it's only costs $1 a pack and comes in XXXXL

Obama: well that's very nice Timmy but i'd like to talk about windmills

Russert: tonight will you pledge to revive the city of Buffalo

Clinton: Tim i'm running for president not Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot

Russert: but you lied about the jobs

Clinton: hey fatty i thought al gore would be president all we need to do is elect a democrat

Russert: good point - Brian you try her she scares me

Williams: Hillary says you are just like George W Bush with no experience

Obama: that's because she is a creature of Washington and she is another John McCain who wants to stay in Iraq for 100 years

Brian: but she is against the war now

Obama: she freaked out when i said i would get tough on Pakistan but i was right

Clinton: i liberated ireland and gave a speech in china

Williams: but he was right about Iraq

Clinton: no i would question his foreign policy judgment

Williams: give me an example of where he has been wrong

Clinton: he agreed with me on Iraq

Williams: wow that is dumb

Williams: but if he agreed with you then what makes you better?

Clinton: i went to 80 countries with the Bill Clinton presidency

Williams: were you qualified for that?

Clinton: shut up

Obama: look Hillary and George W. Bush drove the American bus into a ditch and i'm trying to get the bus out of the ditch but it's hard

Williams: you're a hot head

Obama: i never said i would bomb Pakistan i said we need to stop fucking around with the people who attacked on 9/11 it's about a speech it's a break with the Clinton-McCain Doctrine

Tim: if the iraqi government says we should leave but Bill Kristol says we should stay should we leave???

Obama: of course motherfucker

Clinton: duh sovereignty dood

Tim: what if Al Qeada resurges and Iraq GOES TO HELL?????

Clinton: why don't you go to hell fatty

Tim: will you re-invade if there is another civil war

Clinton: sure sounds delightful pumpkinhaid

Obama: we're fucked in Afghanistan now of course i will always reserve the right to invade anywhere monaco or Nantucket or wherever

Timmy: oh noes!!

Obama: fuck you timmy as commander in chief i won't be dicking around

Williams: Hillary mocked you dood

Hillary: celestial choirs!

Obama: sounds damm good

Hillary: ha ha ha ha

Williams: whut do u think Becky

Obama: look i get it she has this whole thing where she says I'm all about speeches well for 2 decades i've worked for people - sick people, wounded warriors, and unethical fucks in Congress - and i talked to working class white women and i said i'm not interested in talk or speeches and i'm interested in getting motherfucking shit done!

Clinton: hey giving bizarre speeches is my idea of fun - you know 15 years ago i failed at making universal health care plan happen so i know what i'm doing

Brian: naturally but what else

Clinton: take on credit cards companies, dick cheney, and special interest and i am a fighter

Obama Clip: you can't run away from some things in teh White House but not others

Williams: you have to take the good and take the bad

Obama: and there you have it those are the Facts of Life

Williams: was she co-presnit?

Obama: Look fighting is not enough she ended up fighting Pat Moynihan but look if you want a fighter high a black man from the mean streets of chicago and not a fucking goldwater girl

Williams: damm my negro gettin tough

Obama: she takes cash from special interests she's part of the problem

Tim: there is nothing more important than adhering to my arbitrary standards will you vote for John McCain

Obama: look stupid my funding comes from small donors McCain's comes from 527s

Tim: but your word!!! Your pledge!

Obama: McCain is going to game this system

Russert: I am now going to talk for a half an hour about bullshit - your tax returns hillary

Clinton: sorry i fell asleep while you were talking

Russert: will you release 10,000 pages from teh Archives

Clinton: i don't run the National Archives dumbass

Russert: do you accept the support of the Scary Black Louis Farrakhan

Obama: no i don't

Russert: but will reject his vote?

Obama: well I can't-

Russert: but he said judaism was a gutter religion-

Obama: shut the fuck up shithead

Russert: but you think Farrakhan epitomizes greatness what about the Jews!!???!!?

Obama: one more such question and i will reach across the table punch that grin off your fat face

Hillary: there's a difference between denouncing and rejecting -- Obama is clearly an anti-semite

Obama: well since Hillary is going to lose this debate and the election i will be nice and give her the word reject - i reject Farrakan

Hillary: yay i win

William: well thank god we settled the all important Farrakhan Question now the people of Youngstown will get those jobs back

Williams: how can you possibly run as a black man with a more liberal record than Ted Kennedy???

Obama: ooooh i must be a Scary Liberal because I wanted an Independent Ethics Office within the U.S. Senate

Williams: but you're scary

Obama: Republicans like me because I'm gonna fight for americans

Williams: you're a Magic Negro

Russert: who will be the next President of Russia?

Hillary: he's a hand picked scary dood who's name i can't remember

Russert: what's his name

Clinton: Medvedvy something

Obama: yeah whatever Timmy

Russert: what if he invades Kosovo???

Obama: i will send the National Guard to occupy the set of Meet the Press

Russert: oh noes!

Obama: i'm not kidding you dumb fat mick

Ferraro Explains How Wonderful Superdelegates Are

Geraldine Ferraro:

Democrats had to figure out a way to unify our party. What better way, we reasoned, than to get elected officials involved in writing the platform, sitting on the credentials committee and helping to write the rules that the party would play by?

So we created superdelegates and gave that designation to every Democratic member of Congress...

These superdelegates, we reasoned, are the party’s leaders. They are the ones who can bring together the most liberal members of our party with the most conservative and reach accommodation. They would help write the platform. They would determine if a delegate should be seated. They would help determine the rules. And having done so, they would have no excuse to walk away from the party or its presidential nominee.

It worked. In 1984 I headed the party’s platform committee. We produced the longest platform in Democratic history, a document that stated the party’s principles in broad terms that neither the most liberal nor the most conservative elected officials would denounce. It generated no fights at the convention. It was a document that no one would walk away from.

It worked so well that in 1984 the Democrats only lost 49 states! Awesome!

JOHN McCAIN TRIES TO WRIGGLE OUT OF ELECTION PLEDGE; FEC SAYS NOT SO FAST

FEC chair: McCain can't drop out of public financing system

"The government's top campaign finance regulator says John McCain can't drop out of the primary election's public financing system until he answers questions about a loan he obtained to kickstart his once faltering presidential campaign.

Federal Election Commission Chairman David Mason, in a letter to McCain this week, said the all-but-certain Republican nominee needs to assure the commission that he did not use the promise of public money to help secure a $4 million line of credit he obtained in November.

McCain's lawyer, Trevor Potter, said Wednesday evening that McCain has withdrawn from the system and that the FEC can't stop him. Potter, who was FEC chairman in 1994, said the campaign did not encumber the public funds in any way."

MAYBE HE'LL WRITE TO THE FCC FOR YOU, TOO

"In late 1999, McCain twice wrote letters to the Federal Communications Commission on behalf of Florida-based Paxson Communications — which had paid Iseman as its lobbyist — urging quick consideration of a proposal to buy a television station license in Pittsburgh. At the time, Paxson's chief executive, Lowell W. "Bud" Paxson, also was a major contributor to McCain's 2000 presidential campaign.

In an unusual response, then-FCC Chairman William Kennard complained that McCain's request "comes at a sensitive time in the deliberative process" and "could have procedural and substantive impacts on the commission's deliberations and, thus, on the due process rights of the parties."

McCain wrote the letters after he received more than $20,000 in contributions from Paxson executives and lobbyists. Paxson also lent McCain his company's jet at least four times during 1999 for campaign travel."

***********************************************************************

"I've never done any favors for anybody — lobbyist or special-interest group. That's a clear, 24-year record," McCain told reporters.

Bush on Castro

Bush has just come out against two brothers manipulating elections to put one of them in power.

Uh-huh.

MEDAL OF FREEDOM, BABY!

Former CIA Director George Tenet has taken a job at a New York investment bank with a reputation for secrecy.

In keeping with the tradition of what Fortune Magazine once called a "very private family firm," Allen and Co. did not issue a news release last October when Tenet became a managing director there.

The appointment was first reported by the French publication Intelligence Online.

A former U.S. intelligence official close to Tenet confirmed to United Press International that he had started work at the bank in October last year, and said he stepped down from at least one other board as a result.

According to Fortune Magazine, the bank organizes a retreat in Sun Valley, Idaho, every July that "may be the biggest annual event on the corporate calendar" but otherwise maintains a low profile.

Hoover's company information service says the company is "viewed as something of a secret society" and "serves variously as investor, underwriter, and broker to some of the biggest names in entertainment, technology, and information."

MARK PENN QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Winning Democratic primaries is not a qualification or a sign of who can win the general election. If it were, every nominee would win because every nominee wins Democratic primaries.”

- Mark Penn

Just what would it take for this man to be fired?

Friday, February 15, 2008

YET ANOTHER REASON NOT TO HIRE MARK PENN

Even as Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign was blasting Sen. Barack Obama for his ties to the Exelon Corporation, the firm of Mark Penn, Clinton's chief strategist, was earning hundreds of thousands of dollars from the very same nuclear energy giant.

This past week, Burson Marsteller, Penn's powerhouse consulting agency, was paid more than $230,000 by Exelon to help renew a nuclear energy license in New Jersey, the Huffington Post has learned. The payment was for work that took place over several months, and Burson is still employed by the company.

It's pretty clear now that if Hillary Clinton does lose the nomination to Barack Obama, no one will be more heavily criticized than Mark Penn.

GOV. ED RENDELL DARES WHITE VOTERS TO VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA

Via TPM:

"According to a columnist for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Gov. Ed Rendell (D-PA) made the following argument in a meeting with the paper's editorial board as to why Obama could have some difficulty in his state's April 22 primary:

"You've got conservative whites here, and I think there are some whites who are probably not ready to vote for an African-American candidate."

Rendell, in the Hillary camp, is, aside from angering black voters, practically begging for white voters to vote for Obama to prove they aren't racists.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“She has consistently shown an electoral resiliency in difficult situations that have made her a winner,” Mr. Penn said. “Senator Obama has in fact never had a serious Republican challenger.”

In her Senate races in 2000 and 2006, Hillary Clinton defeated Rep. Rick Lazio and John Spencer, the former Mayor of Yonkers.

GENIUSES BEHIND THE HOUSING CRISIS LIVING IT UP IN VEGAS

Creators of Credit Crisis Revel in Las Vegas

By Vikas Bajaj

In a gilded ballroom at the Venetian, the revelers sipped cabernet, dined on surf and turf and crowed as the Blue Man Group put on a private show. The partygoers had traveled to Sin City this week for an event that before the current credit squeeze might have been called the Predators’ Ball of this era.

This time, with mortgage securities replacing the junk bonds of the 1980s, the gathering felt more like group therapy. The occasion was, officially, the 5th annual conference of the American Securitization Forum, a celebration of the financial wizardry that supposedly turns risky mortgages and other loans into gilt-edged securities...

The four-day event at the Venetian drew more than 6,500 financial professionals from across the country. Many came in search of ways to ride out — or better yet, to profit from — the mortgage mess their industry helped to create.

SECRET PRISON CAMP FOR HIGH LEVEL DETAINEES DISCOVERED INSIDE GITMO

AP confirms secret camp inside Gitmo

GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL BASE, Cuba - Somewhere amid the cactus-studded hills on this sprawling Navy base, separate from the cells where hundreds of men suspected of links to al-Qaida and the Taliban have been locked up for years, is a place even more closely guarded — a jailhouse so protected that its very location is top secret..

Guantanamo commanders said Camp 7 is for key alleged al-Qaida members, who must be kept apart from other prisoners to prevent them from retaliating against long-term detainees who have talked to interrogators. They also want the location kept secret for fear of terrorist attack.

Detainees have been held in Camp Echo and Camps 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Journalists cleared by the military have been allowed to tour some of these lockups, where 260 men are held, but aren't allowed to speak to detainees. Some lawmakers and other VIPs have passed through, and the International Red Cross has access, but doesn't divulge details of visits with prisoners.

Camp 7, where 15 "high-value detainees" are held, is so secret that its very existence was not publicly known until it was mentioned in December by attorneys for Majid Khan, a former Baltimore resident who allegedly plotted to bomb gas stations in the United States. Previously, many observers believed the 15 were being held in Camps 5 or 6, which are maximum-security facilities.

IT'S OFFICIAL: WE'RE DUMB

Panel: Spy agencies
in dark about threats

In a scathing report on the intelligence community, a presidential commission Thursday said the United States still knows "disturbingly little" about the weapons programs and intentions of many of its "most dangerous adversaries."

The panel also determined the intelligence community was "dead wrong" in its assessments of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction capabilities before the U.S. invasion.

WHY DID GOODELL DESTROY PATRIOTS' TAPES?

Answer: We still don't know

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell Defends Destroying
Evidence in Spygate Scandal
AP News

In the face of congressional pressure over destroying evidence from the Spygate scandal, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell defended his actions Friday.

Goodell also said he'd be willing to meet with Sen. Arlen Specter, who sent a letter to the commissioner the previous day asking why tapes shot by the New England Patriots in the cheating scandal were destroyed.

"The reason I destroyed the tapes is they were totally consistent with what the team told me," Goodell said during his State of the NFL speech. "It was the appropriate thing to do and I think it sent a message.

"The actual effectiveness of taping and taking of signals from opponents — it is something done widely in many sports. I think it probably had limited, if any effect, on the outcome of games.

"We wanted to take and destroy that information," he said. "They may have collected it within the rules, but we couldn't determine that. So we felt that it should be destroyed."

If this makes sense to you, let me know.

Meet The Press with Sen. Hillary Clinton - January 13, 2008

***********************************
Meet The Press
January 13, 2008
Host: Tim Russert
Guest: Senator Hillary Clinton
*************************************

Tim Russert: you attacked Martin Luther King - would like to attack Abraham Lincoln or JFK on my show this morning?

Hillary Clinton: no thanks

Russert: you claim Obama is an Islamic drug dealer

Clinton: i haven't heard that

Russert: you hate civil rights activists?

Clinton: no i love MLK - i marched with Dr. King and Mitt Romney and he was he was gassed and jailed and campaigned

Russert: so what does that have to do with you and Obama

Clinton: Obama is a big liar he’s trying to reverse-Swift-boat me

Russert: very clever

Clinton: look i'm female and he's black so let's all be happy and not get bogged down

Russert: bill attacked him as a fairy tale but i love fairy tales

Clinton: ok Obama was against the war in 2002 but by 2004 he was voting for the funding the war

Russert: so did you!

Clinton: yeah but he didn't introduce legislation against the war when he could have

Russert: what do you want him to do?

Clinton: he said i killed Bhutto and Tim you can't prove that!!!

Russert: Rep Clyburn says Bill was offensive

Clinton: no no no you mislead pumpkinhaid

Russert: even Donna Brazille hates you

Clinton: oh 'cooking with grease' give me a break

Russert: some random black woman says you are minimizing King and it takes a white man to make change happen

Clinton: you fat liar Obama compared himself to Kennedy and he was a war hero and King was a real leader and Obama is just a kid

Russert: so he's not a legendary politician big deal

Clinton: King would endorse me today because i am a legislator and Obama is just a pretty speechmaker

Russert: so you don't hate black people?

Clinton: no i admire politically active blacks not eloquent Johnny-come-latelies like Obama

Russert: you compare Obama to demagogues like Huey Long!!

Clinton: he's just a speaker and he has done nothing goddamitt i've taken shit for the party and bill clinton and upstate new york and i'm owed dammit

Russert: why should people vote for you

Clinton: i'm really boring

Russert: you say you’re workhorse and he's a showhorse

Clinton: look i've paid my dues and did hard work

Russert: Obama talks pretty but is lazy?

Clinton: oh don't tempt me fatty

Russert: you cried why -- your time of the month?

Clinton: no i'm human stupid and i was touched by voters telling me about all their problems it's fucking moving Timmy

Russert: but that woman voted later for Barack because you're stiff and dull

Clinton: fuck you timmy i mean that

Russert: is obama unready?

Clinton: totally only i can deal with the economy, health care, iraq, iran and afghanistan

Russert: was that a yes?

Clinton: yes - he only passed an anti-lunch bill whereas i can answer hundreds of questions

Russert: you won in 2000 cause Lazio went after you and after Obama and Edwards ganged up you played the gender card

Clinton: bullshit obama is the one playing the race card

Russert: oh?

Clinton: i'm a daughter and wife and sister and a lover

Russert: you're tied with Barack

Clinton: but i've walked through the fires of hell for 35 years

Russert: what's the best reason to vote for you

Clinton: it will makes Chris Matthews absolutely crazy

Russert: If Saint Petreaus says we should stay will you let our troops will stay??

Clinton: no because on Day One we will begin troops withdraw in the first 60 days and pressure the Iraqis to get their shit together

Russert: But the Generals!

Clinton: in January of 2009 our troops will come home so the Iraqis best get used to it

Russert: The surge has worked and you know it!!!!

Clinton: Timmy i use small words now -- the surge has failed to achieve political unity - of course our troops are good at killing but it's still killing

Russert: but awesome killing

Russert: you voted for the war and attacking Saddam and the same day Obama gave a speech where he was proven fucking right

Clinton: oh just words Timmeh look i didn't support the war just a vote disarm Saddam by force

Russert: oh ok

Clinton: Obama wanted to surrender to Saddam and just let him keep his biological weapons

Russert: the ones he didn't have

Clinton: Obama should have held himself to a higher standard because of his speech and not support John Kerry otherwise what is the point of even having a Magic Negro???

Russert: you voted for war and if you disagree that's bunk

Clinton: i'm not going to give the UN Security Council a veto over American policy

Russert: don't we sit on the Security Council?

Clinton: the point is i was very strongly in favor of only give a Bush a year to attack Iraq

Russert: oh good

Clinton: it wasn't a vote for force

Russert: the title of the bill was a vote for use of force

Clinton: we can sit here and argue about who voted for what but the point is Obama was supporting Bush in 2004

Russert: but so did you??

Clinton: yeah but I don't pretend to be perfect like he does!!

Russert: did he have better judgment in 2002

Clinton: one little decision

Russert: it was a decision to go war!

Clinton: Ask him about his positions since then!

Russert: i did

Clinton: his answer was very political

Russert: oh noes!

Clinton: yeah he pretends he's all non-political but everyone knows i'm triangulating so it doesn’t count

Russert: so no fair

Clinton: right - we need someone careful now not someone who’s going to go off half cocked and inspire people

Russert: doris kearns goodwin says you haven't learned

Clinton: oh fuck her

Russert: do you wish you had read the NIE?

Clinton: hey i thought i was voting for sending inspectors in

Russert: punk'd!

Clinton: bush himself said the vote i cast was to avoid war

Russert: you fucked up - you trusted him

Clinton: President Otter yes

Russert: back in 1992 Bill Clinton gave a speech endorsing Obama!

Clinton: no he was the senior governor back then and times are different we need change now and i have 35 years of experience rooted in real lives of real people

Russert: that’s your message?

Clinton: yes I'm tanned rested and ready

Russert: but 20 years ago--

Clinton: no let's talk about the future like the economy and this recession and my proposals

Russert: but you don't pay for them

Clinton: i'm more responsible that Edwards and the black guy

Russert: you don't pay for stimulus

Clinton: well that's different

Russert: but aren't poor subprime buyers bad people?

Clinton: they’re victims of fraud and liars

Russert: sounds like welfare

Clinton: alan greenspan agrees with me

Russert: screw let them - live in their second home

Clinton: oh sure

Russert: you pardoned marc rich and your brother's criminal friends will you pledge to depoliticize the government

Clinton: ha ha that's rich after living through the Bush years

Russert: is there a Vast Right Ring Conspiracy???

Clinton: ha ha ha no comment

Russert: you are a polarizer!

Clinton: no i worked with Republicans in the Senate i'm like a good combination of Edwards and Obama - experience + fighting

Russert: but you work with GOP??

Clinton: trust me timmster they hate my guts

Russert: independents hate you

Clinton: oooh a poll - what a shithead you are

Russert: you hurt mah feelings

Clinton: hey bill only got 3% in Iowa in 1992 and look what happened

Russert: surprise!

Clinton: Obama is not ready you can't vote 'present' when you're presnit

Russert: do you support a lawsuit to prevent people from voting in Nevada

Clinton: a caucus is for neighbors to get together and talk about their choices

Russert: and vote for president

Clinton: oh that

Russert: what's your biggest adversity in life?

Clinton: Bill will sleep with anything that moves

Russert: like who

Clinton: I can't even leave him alone with Barack

Russert: thanks alot Senator and good luck

JOHN EDWARDS FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL

A while ago, I created a post titled a post "Chris Dodd for Senate Majority Leader".

Dodd has dropped out and more people jumping on the bandwagon for Chris Dodd to replace Harry Reid .

Today, a new post based on John Edwards passion for fighting and his experience litigating against corporations.

If he doens't get the Democratic nomination, and he doesn't want to be Vice President, what better job than U.S. Attorney General in an Obama administration?

DEAR JAY LENO: THANKS FOR THE DOUGHNUTS, BUT FUCK YOU

Letter from the Writes Guild to its members:

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel Live in Los Angeles, and Late Night with Conan O’Brien here in New York – also are returning Wednesday night, but without their striking writers. Leno, O’Brien and Kimmel are all members of the Guild and have been and continue to be extremely supportive of our strike and their writing staffs. For that we truly are grateful.

Nonetheless, they are coming back without writers and without a new Guild contract, forced back on the air by companies that refuse to sit at the table and bargain with us. We cannot let that pass.

It’s a difficult and painful decision, but the Guilds East and West have determined that we will picket outside the studios of these programs, beginning January 2.

HUCKABEE REALLY IS CRAZY

Jim Tankersley, at the Chicago Tribune's blog The Swamp, writes a post titled "Huckabee's muzzle control problem," and scores a minor scoop on a bizarre incident at "pheasant-hunting expedition" by Huckabee in Iowa on Wednesday. A reporter asked why he hadn’t invited Cheney along, and Huckabee said, "Because I want to survive all the way through this."

Tankersley writes, "Huckabee’s party turned toward a cluster of reporters and cameramen and, when they kicked up a pheasant, fired shotgun blasts over the group’s heads." He added: "This, friends, is dangerously bad hunting form.”

"Your Swamp correspondent, the son of a longtime hunter education instructor, grew up plying the corn rows and stream banks of rural Oregon with a Labrador retriever and a Mossberg 20-gauge pump shotgun. On our hunts for pheasant, grouse and quail, merely swinging a gun barrel in the general direction of another person was grounds for day-long banishment to the truck (which smelled like wet dog)."

"Suffice to say, if any of our hunting mates had pulled a stunt like Huckabee’s yesterday, we never would have invited them back. It’s the sort of behavior that drives safety-conscious hunters up the wall, because it reinforces a reckless, gun-totin’ stereotype."

"My colleague James Oliphant reports that Huckabee’s party was about 75 yards away from the press corps Wednesday when a pheasant jumped up and flew toward the reporters, drawing several shots. 'That was too close,' he reports a cameraman saying."

Perhaps Huckabee missed hunter’s safety classes – Arkansas only requires them for hunters born after 1968 – but the etiquette on this point is clear.

“Never point a firearm at yourself or others,” the International Hunter Education Association declares in its Basic Safety Rules. Later, it adds, “Never point your firearm at something you do not intend to shoot. Make sure you positively identify what you are shooting at and know what lies in front of and beyond it.”

Huckabee emerged happily from his hunt, three dead pheasants in tow, Oliphant reports. Asked for a metaphor to describe the hunt, he replied, "Don't get in my way. This is what happens."
