Just read the "Pardon Scooter" Huffington Post column by Obama campaign General Counsel Robert F. Bauer.
I still like Obama, but this falls into the category of "way too clever by half."
I think I get what Bauer is trying to say, but on it's face it is simply ridiculous to wade into this snake pit. My advice: just campaign, and try not get sucked into irrelevant arguments like this one.
This piece, along with the incident with Edwards adviser Mudflap Saunders (I know, Mudcat) indicate that once a person is attached to a candidate, they should run all public statements through the campaign. As far as I can tell, all this will do is roil the liberal blogosphere completely unnecessarily.
Don't tell me "Pardon Scooter" is Obama's Message for the Day.
There's a class of Democratic advisers who spend too much time trying to show everyone else how smart they are. In fact, this is popular among Democrats in general, and is generally a good thing. There's nothing wrong with being smart, and as well all know, too many Republicans seem to spend all their time showing the world how stupid they are, even if, in fact, they are not. This is supposed to make them seem genuine, or something.
But sometimes cleverness can go too far. Bauer should spend a little less time showing us how he can bend logic like a pretzel and more time helping his candidate win.
